She was born in the Bronx
Born Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar on October 11, 1992 in New York City, Cardi B was raised in the Highbridge neighborhood of South Bronx by parents from Trinidad and Dominican Republic. Almanzar attended Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Technology before attending college full time; finding it hard to balance classes with strip club work she eventually dropped out and became a dancer at New York Dolls strip club where she earned $300 per eight-hour shift; later adopting the name Bacardi, from Bacardi brand of rum which eventually was reduced down to Cardi B over time.
In 2015, she joined Love & Hip Hop: New York and quickly earned a large fan following for her strong personality and sassiness – she soon became known as “regula, degula schmegula girl from the Bronx.”
Since her time on the show concluded in 2017, Cardi B has gained greater acclaim for her musical endeavors, releasing two mixtapes and signing with Atlantic Records early the same year.
Cardi B has quickly become a household name since her debut. She has appeared on multiple top songs, such as Bodak Yellow which reached No. 1. Additionally to rapping, she has become an advocate for women’s rights and spoken out against racism.
She is married to Offset
Cardi B and Offset began dating in 2017 and were married by September of that year. In 2022, they welcomed a son named Wave Set Cephus into the world. Both parties are well known for their outspoken relationship and often defend one another against any allegations of cheating.
Offset has also promised not to cheat on his wife again. They share an intimate connection and show each other support during each career endeavor, even during times of contention and controversy. Even so, they remain happy together.
At this month’s Met Gala after-party, Cardi B and Offset showed their affection as they exchanged sweet kisses close to one another. She donned a Robert Wun dress featuring Azature fine jewelry while she opted for Jimmy Choo shoes; Offset chose a Dior suit.
Offset and Cardi B first caused marriage speculation when they were seen holding hands at the Super Bowl in February 2017. Later that same month, Offset wrote an ode to Cardi in “Bodak Yellow”, showing his admiration for her as an artist and rapper from “Invasion of Privacy”.
They have experienced various ups and downs during their relationship. Cardi filed for divorce in September 2020 before withdrawing it by November. Offset accused her of cheating in June 2023 before retracting it later on; since then they’ve moved past all this drama and are enjoying being parents together.
