Everything you need to know about sectional garage doors

There is no such place in your home that needs less of your attention. Even when it comes to the doors of your house, you need to give yourself time to think. And if you are having multiple getaways to your home, then the task becomes extra difficult.

While your main focus is on the front and back doors, you should also think twice about the garage. Not to scare you, but the garage door is often considered the easiest way to break into your house.

Therefore, you need to carefully consider before you make any decision. A sturdy sectional overhead door is perfect for the garage. But what are they? Why are these perfect?

In this blog, we will take a look at all you need to know about these doors.

The basic idea

These doors are generally comprised of horizontal panels that are connected by the hinges. The construction pretty much enables the sectional door to bend as it opens and closes, travelling along the roller tracks on both sides of the doors. These tracks guide the door to rest parallel to the ceiling of the garage when it is in the open position. Props to the hinged panels; these doors may make it past the curve in the tracks that enable it to open and close.

The doors may use torsion cables and springs during the opening and closing procedures. These parts make the garage door open and close by hand or with an automatic opener.

How do these work?

So, the sectional garage doors have around 4 to 8 horizontal panels. These are connected by hinges. Every panel moves vertically towards the guide rails that are mounted millimetres below the ceiling.

The panels are about 50mm thick, hinged together and are attached to the inside tracks of the garage door frame. The hinges can cause the doors to bend as they move upwards.

There are cable drums on both ends of the tracks. When the door is opened, the cable will wind around the drum and pull the door up. And the reverse will happen when it is closed.

The barrel’s torsion springs will support the doors’ weight to prevent them from falling out when they are in motion. Therefore, if you notice that the door speed is faster than normal, you might wish to examine the springs.

The benefits

Here are some of the advantages of sectional doors that you need to know:

  • The shape of the opening is not crucial when the door itself does not pass through the opening. This means the sectional doors are ideal for odd-shaped openings.
  • They are flexible and weather-resistant.
  • These doors can open vertically and are suspended under the ceiling. It means that the area outside and inside of the garage can be utilized.

Wrapping Up

So, these are pretty much all you need to know about sectional overhead door. The design of these doors offers maximum drive-through height and width. They are far better than the conventional garage door. Just make sure to do your research when you are looking to make a big purchase. Take a look at online reviews and ratings before you buy them.
