Calathea Roseopicta: Your Guide To The Stunning Medallion Plant

Calathea Roseopicta, also commonly known as rose-painted calathea, is a tropical plant with oval-shaped, dark green leaves marked with areas of pink and red. This plant is found in North America because that region is suitable for its growth.

This is a houseplant and it is low maintenance that’s why it is the most preferred plant among plant lovers. This plant grows best in warm, humid conditions and requires low to moderate indirect light, temperatures between between 70°F and 80°F, and moist, well-drained soil.

In this article, you will learn how to grow and care for the Calathea Roseopicta plant. So, let’s get started.

Suitable Condition And Care

The most basic care this plant requires is that it must be kept in a warm place. Make sure this plant gets indirect sunlight and you must prevent it from harsh sunlight because it can cause damage. Plant it in moist and well-drained soil, make sure to water the soil when it starts to get dry, and in the growing season make sure to add proper fertilizers.

Light

Like other types of calathea roseopicta requires medium to bright indirect light, such as from an east-facing window or skylight.

The plant can also grow well several feet from a south-facing or west-facing window, as long as its leaves are not exposed to direct sunlight. Faded brown or tan patches on leaves indicate sunburn. If these appear, move the plant out of direct sunlight.

Soil

Calathea roseopicta plants grow in a well-drained potting mix that contains peat moss or coconut coir to retain moisture. Standard houseplant mix works well, or you can make your own mix by blending one part peat moss or coconut coir, one part compost for fertility, and one part perlite for drainage.

Water

It requires soil that’s consistently moist but not soggy. Water this plant when the soil surface has just begun to show signs of drying out.

Always empty drip trays and cache pots after watering to ensure that the plant isn’t sitting in water, which can cause fungal diseases like root rot.

Temperature And Humanity

Calatheas prefer warm temperatures between around 70°F and 80°F if the temperature falls below 60°F can damage the plant.

This plant requires highly humid conditions because of its native environment, there should be 50 to 60 percent of humidity. It is also suitable for a room plant because of the temperature.

Fertilizers

Feed calathea roseopicta with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength once per month during the growing season. Start to fertilize the plant when you see the new growth in early growth and continue till the winter. Avoid fertilizing in winter.
